More than thirty years ago, Andy and Cheryl’s paths crossed at the scenic Lake Country House in Llangammarch Wells.
At the time, Andy was a budding chef dedicated to perfecting his craft in the kitchen, while Cheryl warmly welcomed guests in the front of house. It was in this vibrant atmosphere that they discovered their mutual love for food, laying the foundation for a lifelong partnership.
As their bond grew, Andy received a life-changing opportunity. For over 23 years, he served as the head pastry chef at the esteemed Gidleigh Park, working alongside acclaimed chef Michael Caines. In this prestigious role, Andy mastered the art of crafting exquisite chocolates, treating guests to delightful chocolates and stunning petit fours that became highlights of their dining experience at this two star michelin country house hotel.
The Road to Family and Chocolate Passion
While Andy was busy creating chocolate masterpieces, Cheryl dedicated over a decade to her role as hotel manager at Northcote Manor in North Devon.
When they welcomed their adoptive boys into their lives, Cheryl made the heartfelt choice to step back from her career to focus on her family.
The pandemic brought an unexpected opportunity for them. With Gidleigh Park temporarily closed, Andy revisited his passion for chocolate.
With Cheryl’s expertise in marketing, they took a leap into handmade chocolates, launching their first box just in time for Mother's Day. Their innovative “miniature four box” exceeded their expectations, leading to the introduction of the “signature nine” box, which also garnered praise.
Inspired by the positive feedback, they soon unveiled their much-anticipated “Signature Eighteen” box, which quickly became a fan favourite among local chocolate enthusiasts.

In their inaugural year in Devon, Andy and Cheryl became excited members of Food Drink Devon. Their commitment to quality and flavour was quickly recognised; their Signature Nine box earned a Platinum award, establishing a high standard within the local food & drink community.
The next year, their Signature Eighteen box triumphed as well, further solidifying their reputation for crafting exceptional chocolates. The accolades were not just awards; they were a reflection of Andy and Cheryl's passion, creativity, and dedication to offering unique chocolate experiences.
A New Chapter in Herefordshire
In 2023, Andrew King Chocolates made a heartfelt move to Herefordshire. This decision brought them closer to Cheryl's family and reconnected them with the family farm.
Now equipped with a bespoke kitchen, Andy has the ideal space for continued innovation and creativity with his chocolate creations.
They passionately participate at local artisan markets in Herefordshire. Places like the charming marketplaces of Hay-on-Wye, Great Malvern, and Ludlow have become regular stops for them.
